The Department of Arts & Letters Celebrates DAL Week 2020 Online

In light of the current pandemic situation, the Department of Arts and Letters (DAL) held its second annual week-long celebration from July 7 to 11 through various online media platforms.

DAL Chairperson Ma. Eliza S. Torres shared that the core of this yearโ€™s celebration is โ€œto see things from a purely scientific and technical standpoint is to miss the golden opportunity to discover the value, the strength, and the resilience of the human spirit,โ€ during the virtual opening ceremony via Facebook Live. The department also presented its various achievements and events since 2018

Subsequently, the respective heads of DALโ€™s four clusters โ€“ those being the Filipino, Humanities, English, and Communication clusters โ€“ presented their organized online events.

The Filipino Cluster launched the โ€œDihital na Timpalak sa Pagsulat at Pagbigkas ng Tulaโ€ (Digital Competition in Writing and Delivering a Poem) following the theme โ€œSa Gitna ng Pandemya: Padayon, Pagsulong, Edukasyon!โ€ (Amidst the Pandemic: Continue, Improve, Education!) starting July 7 to 24. The last day of submission of the video entries was last July 11. Two days later, the chosen video entries were uploaded on the Youtube channel KaDALdalanMU. The winners will be announced on DALโ€™s Facebook page on July 24.

The Humanities Cluster, meanwhile, held the 6th Annual Literary Quiz Show via Zoom last July 8. Two days later, Prof. Norman โ€œNoyโ€ Narciso conducted a webinar entitled โ€œIndi-Genius: Culture of Improvisation, Creativity, and Innovation.โ€

The English Cluster initiated the activities under โ€œAmazing Challengesโ€, which are the creation of TikTok or Jingles videos as well as posters or infographics last July 8 and 9, respectively. Additionally, a tribute to frontliners was initiated last July 9.

The Communication Cluster held the second installment ofย  โ€œTC Flash Talks competitionโ€ wherein students explained a concept from science and technology in simpler terms to a general audience via Zoom last July 11.

Aside from those events, there was also a thanksgiving mass livestreamed from The Manila Cathedral last July 8, and an overview of the departmentโ€™s program offerings during a Mapรบa Meets session last July 10.

To conclude the week-long celebration, the faculty members of DAL had a virtual get-together via Zoom and acknowledged all efforts made for this yearโ€™s DAL Week last July 11.
